Chamfer/Smooth

Using edit poly on a cylinder we created a
tap and then smoothed it using the meshsmooth
modifier, doing this created a messy tap with huge
curves, not very eye catching, to fix it we chamfered
the corners we wanted to have small curves just
slightly, this locks the distance it smooths making it
cleaner and smoother.using chamfer is a great way
to control theway mesh smooth smooths the object
.After this we also learned how to control the smooth
more by using groups, so they dont smooth together
in 1 blob, on the right is a picture of whats
meant to be a game joystick, created using
 the group smoothing.

Soft Selection/Displace

Displace
Today we learned about Displace and Soft Selection,
displace is great for creating landscapes really quickly, to
do so you have to create a jpeg file in black and white, the white
on the picture would be where the land rises and the black
being the lower land, and the greys in between being
different levels of height darker being lower
 and lighter being higher.

Soft Selection

After displace we started using Soft Selection within the
edit poly menu, this is great for editting objects making bubbles
and such, i created an aeroplane after this and you can see where
ive used soft selection on the main tube creating
the cockpit and the back of the plane and on the
engines underneath the wings.

Cheese And Plug,
More Boolean.

After learning more about Boolean & Pro Boolean for 3D
Objects i created a plug socket and a blog of cheese, to
create these objects i used a combination of techniques ive
learned over the past few weeks of 3D, to use the Boolean
tool you get to objects and overlap them, there are several
different options within Boolean, you can choose whether
to Subtract, Intersect or Union. the main ones i used were
the union to combine 2 or more objects together and the
subtract, which is how i got the holes for the cheese, placing
spheres around the face of the cheese and subracting
them and the overlapping parts. For the plug i used
several different objects, placing them in the right place
was a pain but i enjoyed shaping and creating them
 overall.

Shapes Created Using
Boolean & Splines

Below are some of the shapes i
created using a combination of tools
such as boolean spline extrude and some
more in the edit poly menu, i had some
trouble creating several objects but
managed to do a few aswell as some
random building/room plans.

Loft And Splines.

To begin with we followed a tutorial not knowing what we were doing and ended up creating a screwdriver, we were told of how the process worked and left to create our own lofted shape, i chose to make hooks hook. the way the Loft tool works is that you select the spline shape you have created and make several spline shapes, these are the shapes that are going to be placed along the loft to give it a 3d shape, start out with a line and make several shapes of different sizes and place them on selected areas of your line with the loft tool and it begins to make the shape 3D 0 is the beginning of the path shape (the line) and 100 is the end as its measured by the percentage. Below are pictures of the objects i created (Screwdriver and Hook) after learning about the loft tool.

House In 3DS

Creating A House in 3DS Max.

To begin with we created a simple box
shape and through the use of edit poly, created
a lot of polygons within the box shape I created
my house which can be viewed below, some new tools I
used to create this were things such as the Slice
Tool and the Cut tool, i also used most of
the tools i used to create my table
and chair.

Table and Chair.

Another basic creation after being taught
about a few more basic tools and things such
as edit poly and using the effects
within that option, rendered
out in grey scale.

Learning To Use 3DS Max!

Introduction to my blog!

This is a blog that will be used to track my
progress learning to use 3DS Max.

To begin with we were shown the basics
of 3DS Max such as things like some of the tools and
other basics and then we were left to create a quick basic
character using the little knowledge of 3DS Max that we
had. here is a picture of my result, isn't he cool!
